Use your driving skills and friendly personality to help people spend time in your local community. We have got opportunities for volunteers to be an important link in your community.

As a volunteer driver, you could be taking someone to a community club, a regular appointment, taking them home after a hospital stay or responding to ad-hoc requests for transport. You will need to use your own vehicle to offer a friendly journey, supporting people to and from their home and destination. You will work both on your own and with others, building relationships with the people you drive for. We also have opportunities for people with specific skills, so let us know your strengths when we meet. We will reimburse your travel expenses.

There is no age limit to our drivers as long as you have a full driving licence, tax and insurance on their vehicles and inform their insurance company they would be driving as part of a Community Transport service. The expenses they receive are classed as out-of-pocket only, not making a profit.

The service also includes waiting for your passenger to be seen and returning them home again.

You will require an enhanced DBS, which the Royal Voluntary Service will pay for.

Volunteer driving with the Royal Voluntary Service provides a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, helping them to get out and about. You will also gain knowledge of your local community and can volunteer in your own time.
