Accessible Cars
Do you use a wheelchair?
Do you want to go shopping?
Do you want your hair cut at a hairdresser?
Do you want to keep your independence?
Royal Voluntary Service Country Cars Can Help You!
Call 07734 830 683 or email kellie@pembrokeshirevoluntarytransport.org.uk for more information or to book.
Royal Voluntary Service, in conjunction with Pembrokeshire Voluntary Transport, has accessible cars available covering the whole of Pembrokeshire. Each has space for one wheelchair user and two additional passengers.
The wheelchair is drawn into the vehicle using an electric winch and is anchored safely with four floor supports and an ordinary restraint over the shoulder and across the waist. The drivers have had extra training to use this equipment and to provide the confidence which all vulnerable people need and should have.
All the conditions and payments are the same as in the main Country Cars service.
WE WANT TO HELP YOU AND AID YOUR INDEPENDENCE.
But, of course, we always need more volunteers to carry on with this valuable and much-needed scheme – without them we would grind to a halt.

Is your wheelchair suitable for transport? +
Who can hire our wheelchair-accessible cars? +
Our wheelchair-accessible cars are available for private use when not needed for the Pembrokeshire Country Car Service. Cars are usually available in the evenings and at the weekends. Availability is limited during the week, but please do ask. The wheelchair user or disabled person must be a Pembrokeshire resident. Drivers must be over 21 years old and have held a full driving licence for at least two years.
Is any training provided? +
Yes, your nominated driver will need to be available for a short familiarisation with the vehicle and training in the wheelchair access and restraint equipment before taking the vehicle out for the first time. Once trained, your nominated driver will be covered by our insurance policy. We will also need to check that your wheelchair is suitable for transport – click here for more information.
What can the cars be used for? +
There are no restrictions on journey purpose. The service is ideal for people that do not have their own wheelchair accessible car but who have an occasional need for this facility.
What kind of vehicles do we have? +
We have four Volkswagen Caddy cars, which accommodate one wheelchair user, plus up to three passengers as well as the driver. The accessible cars have an electric winch and ramp access at the rear.
How much does it cost? +
Costs are set at a level to cover fuel and running costs, and also to contribute to the eventual replacement of the vehicle. Any additional donations towards the costs of keeping these vehicles on the road are welcome. Call us for details of current charges on 07494 275 538, or email bookings@pembrokeshirevoluntarytransport.org.uk
