PACTO meets with Henry Tufnell MP to update on progress of Transformation Project
Pembrokeshire Association of Community Transport Organisations (PACTO) were delighted to recently meet with Henry Tufnell MP to share details on the progress of our three-year Community Transport (CT) Transformation Project, funded by the Motability Foundation.
Mr Tufnell recently created a short survey on public transport to help improve services in Pembrokeshire, and his visit to PACTO enabled the team to outline the current situation in the county regarding Community Transport – which supports people who struggle to access public transport – along with the impact our Transformation Project has had to date.
PACTO secured a major three-year grant of nearly £1 million from the Motability Foundation in October 2023 to help reinvent Community Transport in Pembrokeshire. This ambitious project gives PACTO a rare chance to step back, review and reshape the sector — strengthening its governance, boosting resilience, pooling resources, and creating clearer, more connected services for people living with mobility challenges.
During the presentation, PACTO were able to detail the areas which have seen improvements since the beginning of the Transformation Project – including the addition of brand-new vehicles to the CT fleet and an increased number of beneficiaries – while also highlighting the challenges that have been presented.
Mr Tufnell has recognised that access to inclusive and reliable transport remains a major challenge for many people in Pembrokeshire, and we are very encouraged that he has committed to working alongside PACTO to ensure a connected, accessible and inclusive transport system for the county.
Speaking on his visit, Mr Tufnell said: “It was a real pleasure spending time with the fantastic team at Pembrokeshire Association of Community Transport Organisations. I’ll continue to work with the brilliant team at PACTO to ensure a connected, accessible, and inclusive transport system for our county.”
We would like to thank Henry for taking the time to meet with us, and we look forward to working together for the benefit of CT in Pembrokeshire moving forward.
Ynglŷn â PACTO
Pembrokeshire Association of Community Transport Organisations (PACTO) is an umbrella charity and not-for-profit membership organisation for Community Transport in Pembrokeshire, supporting local operators in providing accessible, inclusive transport for people with mobility needs and those in rural communities. A registered charity since 2004, PACTO works to improve access to transport for people who are isolated, elderly or disabled. Through guidance, advocacy and our Motability Foundation-funded Transformation Project, we help strengthen governance, modernise Community Transport services, and help reduce transport barriers across the county.
