We’re proud to share a new case study highlighting how Pembrokeshire Association of Community Transport Organisations, in partnership with the Cranfield Trust, is driving real, system-wide change across the Community Transport sector.

At the heart of this work is our Motability Foundation-funded Transformation Project, which is focused on building a stronger, more sustainable and resilient future for Community Transport.

Community Transport is a lifeline in rural areas like Pembrokeshire, yet many organisations face ongoing challenges around capacity, governance, and long-term sustainability.

Through the Journey to Excellence (J2E©) programme, we’ve worked alongside Cranfield Trust mentors and local operators to:

• Identify skills gaps and organisational challenges
• Strengthen leadership, governance and financial sustainability
• Create space for reflection and strategic thinking
• Develop practical, evidence-based action plans

This work has delivered far more than a report. It has created:

✔️ A sector-wide benchmark to guide future development
✔️ Independent, credible evidence to support partners and stakeholders
✔️ Stronger organisations with improved systems and processes
✔️ A foundation for long-term sustainability, growth and resilience

As highlighted in the case study, having an external perspective has been critical—helping organisations step back, think differently, and focus on building the right structures for the future.

What next?
These insights are now directly shaping our new Community Transport Strategy—ensuring it is grounded in real evidence, real experience, and real need.

This is what transformation looks like in practice:
➡️ Collaboration across the sector
➡️ Investment in people, systems and leadership
➡️ Turning insight into action

A huge thank you to Cranfield Trust and all partners involved in this journey.
